Fans have been enjoying the family friendly Halloween movie Hocus Pocus since 1993, and now, almost three decades later, fans are getting a highly anticipated sequel! It was a full year ago that the news was released that a sequel was in the works, but with the year we’ve had, it’s been a slow start for studios to get back to work on the projects we are looking forward to.

But now, lead Sanderson Sister Bette Midler has revealed that she has seen the outline for the story that Hocus Pocus 2 will tell, and here’s what she had to say:

"They presented us with an outline, and after we picked ourselves up off the floor, because it's been 27 years, we looked at it and I think all of us agreed that it was pretty great."

The film will be directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray, Step Up), and Midler will return to star alongside the other two Sanderson Sisters, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy. As for whether or not we will see the other members of the cast including Thora Birch, Omri Katz, and Vinessa Shaw, that’s still unknown. But Midler says the returning crew is equally as key to making a sequel as great as the first film:

"We're trying to see who's available and who's still out there and still working and who can come back. Because, a lot of the success of what we did on that picture had to do with the team that was surrounded, had to do with the team that they assembled to make that picture, the people who did the flying and the rigging, the people who did the green screens, the people who did the ... I don't think they called it the green screen in those days. The people who did the hair and makeup, which were all exemplary, the costumers, and the special effects people."

I am so excited that the ball is rolling on this movie! I just watched Hocus Pocus with my kids on Halloween night, and it’s always so much fun. The sequel is in pre-production, and while we don’t have a release date yet, I’m hoping it hits Disney+ by next Halloween. Are you excited for it?
