Bill Murray Opens Up About Joining Marvel's ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA
A couple of weeks ago a rumor hit the internet that Bill Murray has joined the cast of Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quntumania. Well, it turns out that it’s true! Murray has joined the movie, and he talked about why he joined it in a recent interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. It all boiled down to the fact that he liked the director, Peyton Reed. He said:
"You know, recently I made a Marvel movie. I probably won't tell you, but never mind. In any case, some people were quite surprised why I decided on such a project. But for me the thing was quite clear: I got to know the director – and really liked him very much. He was funny, humble, everything you want from a director. And with the cheerleader story Bring It On he made a movie years ago, which I think is damn good. So I agreed, although I'm not interested in these huge comic book adaptations as an actor otherwise."
Don’t expect to see Murray sign on to another comic book movie, though. Ant-Man is it for him. He explains that it’s an experience that he doesn’t have to go through again:
"Let's put it this way: the director is a good guy, and now I've at least tried out what it's like to shoot a Marvel movie. But I don't think I need that experience a second time. And to come back to your previous question: I have mostly had a pretty good knack for avoiding the nasties of this industry. Fortunately, most good artists are also good people. At least that's how I experience it with my friends."
Murray doesn’t doesn’t offer any details on the film or his character, but as a fan of the legendary comedian, I can’t wait to see who he ends up playing in the MCU. This isn’t actually Murray’s first Marvel gig! Back in 1975, the actor voiced the Human Torch in a radio series.
Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly are set to return and reprise their roles as Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne. They will also be joined by Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer, who will be back as Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne. They will be joined by Jonathan Majors, who is set to play the film's villain, Kang the Conqueror, or one of the many variants of Kang. On top of that, Kathryn Newton will make her MCU debut as Scott Lang's daughter, Cassie Lang.
When previously talking about the third chapter in the Ant-Man saga, Reed teased what we can expect from the film in terms of its size. He’s really excited about what’s coming and explained that this next sequel is going to be much bigger than the first two films:
“There are some really exciting things in store, none of which I can speak to about right now. As is the Marvel way!
“I think the third Ant-Man movie is going to be…a much bigger, more sprawling movie than the first two. It’s going to have a very, very different visual template. And that’s all I will say.”
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania opens in theaters on February 17, 2023.
