Bill Paxton's Son Talks About His Cameo in TWISTERS and Honoring His Dad
The upcoming movie Twisters doesn’t include any of the characters from the original film, but there is one connection to the original film with as cameo from the late Bill Paxton’s son, James Paxton.
James Paxton confirmed his cameo during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, and he plays a small role as a "disgruntled motel guest." Paxton revealed i the interview that it took him a while before he was actually sold on appearing in the film.
Paxton said: "Well, initially, my agents sent me an audition, and I had to read for a role. Some time went by and I didn't really hear anything, so I had made peace with, 'Oh, I guess maybe it's not going to work out.' And then, I heard from my team that they were offering a role."
He continued: "It took me a little bit of time to process it, just given the context of my dad and his significance in the original and him not being here.
“It's an emotional thing. It wasn't something that I could really decide immediately, It took a little time just to process it, just the magnitude of it."
He ultimately agreed to take on the role as a way to honor his father and also bring the spirit of the original to the sequel's set.
Paxton continued: "I wanted to be a conduit for his spirit there and cheer everyone in this production on to success because I know he would be.
“I wanted to do something that really honors his presence in this new chapter and really do something for him. And I realized there's a lot of amazing people involved in this that I would love to get to know. And so it ended up feeling like the right thing to do, to be representative of Dad there.”
The movie is a follow up to the 1996 movie Twister, and it’s described as “adrenaline-pumping, seat-gripping, big-screen thrill ride that puts you in direct contact with one of nature’s most wondrous—and destructive—forces.”
The movie stars Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kate Cooper, “a former storm chaser haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado during her college years who now studies storm patterns on screens safely in New York City. She is lured back to the open plains by her friend, Javi to test a groundbreaking new tracking system.”
It’s here that she crosses paths with Tyler Owens (Glen Powell), “the charming and reckless social-media superstar who thrives on posting his storm-chasing adventures with his raucous crew, the more dangerous the better.”
The synopsis goes on to say: “As storm season intensifies, terrifying phenomena never seen before are unleashed, and Kate, Tyler and their competing teams find themselves squarely in the paths of multiple storm systems converging over central Oklahoma in the fight of their lives.”
Twisters also stars Anthony Ramos (In the Heights) as Javi, alongside David Corenswet (Superman: Legacy), Brandon Perea (Nope), Sasha Lane (American Honey), Daryl McCormack (Peaky Blinders), Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Nik Dodani (Atypical) and Maura Tierney (Beautiful Boy).
Twisters will be released exclusively in theaters on July 19th.
