BLACK ADAM Producer Discusses Introducing Justice Society of America in The Film

During the DC FanDome event, it was revealed that Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam film would introduce the Justice Society of Amerca. The characters that will make their big-screen debut include Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Cyclone, and Atom-Smasher, who will be played by Noah Centineo

We now have some more details to share about the JSA coming to Black Adam thanks to Hiram Garcia, president of Dwayne Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions banner, and a producer of the film. In an interview with Collider, he opened up the introduction of JSA and their links to the other DC Comics movies, saying:

“We are so excited to introduce the Justice Society, especially Hawkman who’s such a beloved character and one of those heroes who’s always meant so much to the DC universe. Having them play in the same sandbox as Black Adam is going to be fantastic, and for the already established fans of these characters I think they are going to be really excited to see what elements from classic story lines we take inspiration from as we bring these characters together. When you take a powerhouse like Black Adam and inject him into this DC cinematic universe you want to make sure you are putting characters around him that can really up the stakes.”

It’s definitely going to be cool to see Hawkman in the film! It’s been rumored that Alexander Skarsgard is up for the role, but that has yet to be confirmed. Garcia went on to explain why he believes audiences are going to flip out when they see what they’re doing with Black Adam, saying:

“I think audiences are going to go crazy when they see the story and sequences we’ve been creating that showcase this world and more importantly what Black Adam is truly capable of. It’s fun to truly showcase all of his abilities and watch someone with this much power who, unlike other powerful DC characters, doesn’t believe in pulling their punches. Then on top of that you add in the complexity of his character and the things he’s carrying with him, what he’s been through, what he’s come from and where he’s going to go.. and it makes for a for a very unique and intense cinematic ride.”

He then went on to share that the details are still being iron out on how Black Adam will connect to the rest of the DCEU:

“There’s been multiple ongoing conversations on how everything will roll out and it’s very exciting for myself as a filmmaker but even more so as a fan. Unfortunately, I can’t speak to that too much because it is still in the works, but I can say that on our end we’re very focused on building out this world we’re creating with Black Adam and the JSA. Obviously Shazam exists in that universe along with many many other heroes and believe me when I say we have very big ambitions for all these characters and the story lines we want to take them through.”

During the Black Adam panel at the DC event, Johnson explained that his character isn't your typical DC Comics hero, saying:

"There are many variations and iterations of Black Adam that we have all fallen in love with over the years, and what I can promise you is a Black Adam that I feel in my heart is the right one to root our story in the beginning, this origin story. This is a character that will possess all the qualities that we have loved, regardless of what variation of Black Adam you've loved."

Johnson went on to describe the character as a "ruthless keeper of justice." He also said, "He is the judge, the jury, and the executioner, and he believes in an eye for an eye. He will always do everything he can to protect his people, more so protect his family."

Black Adam will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows) and it’s set to hit theatres on December 22, 2021.
