BLUE BEETLE Animated Series Coming From Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios

Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios are developing a Blue Beetle animated series that will continue the adventures of Jaime Reyes that began with the live-action film.

It’s explained that the “series will build on the movie… but will divert from telling the same story. Instead, the show will create its own story which, in success, could potentially lead to a return to the big screen for the giant blue bug portrayed by Xolo Maridueña.”

The film’s director Angel Manuel Soto and writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer will executive produce the series alongside John Ricard who was a producer on the film.

The project has been in development since early this year with Miguel Puga (The Casagrandes) leading the charge as the project’s showrunner and director with Cristian Martinez (Women of the Movement, Good Trouble) set as writer.

When it comes to the voice cast several actors have been approached and DC “has received a positive response regarding returns.” I assume many of the cast members will reprise their roles from the movie.

I didn’t really care for the movie as the story and script were weak and the filmmakers didn’t really do anything unique or interesting with the character. It was just that mediocre superhero origin story film that we’ve seen time and time again.

Maybe the animated series will be more fun than the film as the creative team will have the opportunity to get a little more wild with animation.
