BLUE BEETLE Ends Its Theatrical Run as the Lowest-Grossing DCEU Movie of All Time
Blue Beetle has pretty much finished its theatrical run, and the movie is currently available to watch on Digital and is set to be released on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD on October 31. Well, it turns out that the final box office numbers for Blue Beetle make it the lowest-grossing DCEU movie of all time.
The movie took in $71.2 million in the United States and Canada and $56.8 million in overseas territories, so in total it only made $128 million globally. Even Shazam! Fury of the Gods beat that by pulling in over $133 million at the box office.
Regardless of the movie bombing at the box office, DC Studios head James Gunn said that the character will continue in the DCU, so it seems like Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña) is a character that Gunn and the studio are committed to regardless of the low box office numbers.
The movie did get a lot of good reviews, but I don’t think it lived up to what a lot of those reviews were saying. I thought it was a pretty generic superhero movie. As for why more people didn’t go out to watch the movie… Blue Beetle is an obscure DC character and there’s also clearly a lack of interest in DC movies. That’s sure to affect the upcoming Aquaman sequel.
In the film, "Recent college grad Jaime Reyes (Xolo Mariduena) returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it," reads the synopsis. "As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armour capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero Blue Beetle."
