BLUE EYE SAMURAI Season 2 Teaser Takes Mizu to London as Netflix Renews Series for Third and Final Season

Mizu is taking her bloody mission overseas, and Netflix has officially put an expiration date on her quest for revenge.

Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for Blue Eye Samurai Season 2, confirming the acclaimed animated series will return in January 2027. There’s even more news for fans as the streamer has renewed the show for a third and final season, which is already in production for a planned 2028 release.

Season 2 recently wrapped production, and the story is leaving Japan behind for Mizu as she heads to London in pursuit of the men she intends to kill. Meanwhile, several of the show’s major characters will remain in Japan, where a dangerous political situation is developing inside Edo Castle.

Created by married duo Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, Blue Eye Samurai follows mixed-race Japanese warrior Mizu, voiced by Maya Erskine, on a brutal quest for vengeance against four white men who remained illegally in Japan after the Tokugawa shogunate closed the country's borders. One of those men is her father.

Season 2 pushes that mission into completely different territory, but Mizu's reason for fighting hasn't changed. Noizumi explained:

“Mizu’s journey remains the same. Revenge is her religion. She believes that at least two of the men that she’s out to kill are going to be somewhere in this magical place called London.”

Moving the action to London should give the series plenty of fresh material to play with. Mizu will be operating far outside the world she knows, hunting her targets in a city filled with unfamiliar people, dangers, and rules.

Fans may also want to reconsider a few assumptions about characters who appeared to meet their end during the first season. Noizumi teased “…there are also going to be maybe some people you thought died, who maybe are still alive.”

Netflix's official description for Season 2 also reveals what’s happening with Mizu's friends and enemies back home.

In season 2, “Mizu’s bloody quest continues in London, where she faces new friends, old foes, and her own demons. In Japan, Akemi and Taigen navigate Edo Castle under a dangerous new Shogun, while Ringo searches for new purpose.”

It sounds like Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 is going to operate on two major fronts. Mizu's revenge story will continue in London, while Akemi and Taigen become caught up in the shifting power structure at Edo Castle. Ringo, meanwhile, will be trying to figure out where he belongs after everything he's experienced.

The first season was awesome and it built a rich world around Mizu without losing sight of her personal vendetta, and taking part of the story to London creates an opportunity to throw her into a completely unfamiliar environment while the consequences of Season 1 continue unfolding in Japan.

Knowing that Blue Eye Samurai Season 3 will be the final season also gives Noizumi and Green a defined finish line for Mizu's story.

Blue Eye Samurai originally debuted on Netflix in 2023 and went on to win four Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Animated Program for its first season. The combination of striking animation, vicious action, complicated characters, and Mizu's relentless pursuit of revenge made it one of Netflix's standout adult animated series.

Now that revenge is taking Mizu all the way to London, things are about to get even more dangerous. Mizu has more names to cross off her list, and London may not be ready for her.
