Blumhouse is Developing a New DRACULA Movie For Universal Pictures
Universal Pictures is ready to make a new Dracula movie and this time they are enlisting the help of producer Jason Blum and his Blumhouse production banner.
With the box office and critical success of The Invisible Man, the studio is ready to roll forward with more of them. The new Dracula movie will be directed by Karyn Kusama (Destroyer) with a script written by Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay.
They are doing exactly what I thought they would do… according to THR, the new Dracula film would take place in modern times. I hate that, but that’s what this has all come to. Blumhouse has made some great horror movies, though, so maybe they’ll deliver a solid Dracula movie that has a contemporary spin.
This Dracula project comes on the heels of another untitled legacy monster project that is being set up and produced by horror movie master James Wan. The studio is also working with filmmakers such as Paul Feig, Elizabeth Banks and John Krasinski, on these projects such as Dark Army and The Invisible Woman.
I do like this approach that Universal is taking with these films where "It's a 'best idea wins' approach," and that they "are having the filmmakers find the individual stories." I just don’t care to see all these stories being set in the modern day.
What do you think about Blumhouse developing a new Dracula movie and the fact that it will have a contemporary setting?
