Boy George Thinks Sophie Turner Would Be a Perfect Fit to Play a Young Him in His Upcoming Biopic, and She Agrees
A couple weeks ago, we reported that MGM is developing a biopic on the Culture Club singer Boy George. This news came on the heels of the announcement that MGM is also bringing us an Aretha Franklin biopic entitled Respect, starring Jennifer Hudson in the title role. Now we are awaiting the casting news of the Boy George film, but while we wait, the singer himself has a suggestion.
According to a report from Vogue UK, Boy George was recently interviewed on the Australian radio show Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa wherein he raved about his love of the Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner, and talked about how he believed she could be a great younger version of himself. Here’s what he had to say about casting the film:
“There’s been some really interesting suggestions. One of the most interesting suggestions was Sophie Turner. [People will say] ‘she can’t play you she’s a woman,’ you know. But when I was 17, I would have loved to have been her.”
And when Vogue tweeted out his sentiments, Turner was quick to respond:
I actually think she really kind of resembles him, so it would actually be a really interesting choice. When asked what Boy George thought of his life being chronicled in the film, he replied:
“In our game, there is always [so much] stuff that is written about you that is so ridiculous, that you say ‘I don’t mind it... it makes me sound more interesting.’ He sleeps upside down on the roof. He only lives on lentils, that kind of stuff... I think it just makes a great picture.”
He has had kind of a private life and has been so different from the mainstream for so long, so I am pretty interested in seeing what story the film ends up telling.
