Brandon Sklenar Addresses Batman and NOVA Casting Rumors; Confirms Marvel Studios Meeting
It seems like every other day there’s a new rumor that hits the Internet about who’s in the running for a major superhero role, and Brandon Sklenar’s name has popped up a couple of times.
The It Ends With Us and 1923 star has been linked to both Batman in James Gunn’s DCU and Richard Rider in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Nova series, but how much truth is there to it?
While talking with The Playlist, Sklenar acknowledged that he’s aware of the Nova reports, but claimed that it was just as much a surprise to him as it was to fans. That said, he did reveal that he has a meeting lined up with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.
“Yeah, I heard about that. It was news to me. I think I was supposed to meet with [Marvel Studios/Marvel Television] at some point here… with [Kevin] Feige. We’ll see. That would be cool.”
So while there’s no confirmation that he’s in the running for Nova, that Marvel meeting does leave the door wide open for speculation.
Meanwhile, DC fans have been championing Sklenar as a potential Bruce Wayne in The Brave and the Bold, and it turns out the actor is very much on board with the idea. Though he hasn’t had any discussions with DC Studios yet, it’s clear that he’s got a serious interest in donning the cape and cowl.
“I’ve seen a bunch of fan-casting for this Batman thing, and that’s very interesting to me, I love Batman. That would be a dream, for sure. But we’ll see what happens, I’m built for it. It would have to be the right thing at the right time.”
Marvel’s Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, has teased Nova as an “amazing ensemble piece with a great cast of characters.” He also compared the show’s tone to Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica, hinting at a more expansive cosmic adventure.
As for Nova’s long-awaited MCU introduction, Feige himself addressed it in the past saying: "We love Nova. We are in really early development on Nova. We have a new system behind the scenes at Marvel Studios. We're more like a traditional studio now. We're developing more than we actually will produce.
“There are plans to develop Nova. I love Nova, too. I love Rich Rider, too. I hope it gets to the screen. The world is always chaos. There's always things. You gotta conjure these things to make them happen but I would love to see a Nova show, one day."
While nothing is set in stone, Sklenar’s upcoming Marvel meeting and his enthusiasm for Nova and Batman make him a name to keep an eye on. We’ll just have to wait and see what ultimately happens with the actor.
