Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz Returning for THE MUMMY 4, READY OR NOT Directors Set to Helm!

Here’s some exciting news! Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz will return to The Mummy franchise! According to Deadline, Universal Pictures is moving forward with a brand-new installment, and both stars are reportedly “in discussions” to return as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell.

The 1999 action-adventure classic The Mummy, directed by Stephen Sommers, became an instant favorite among moviegoers. It introduced audiences to Fraser’s fearless adventurer Rick O’Connell and Weisz’s brilliant Egyptologist Evelyn Carnahan.

Alongside John Hannah as Jonathan Carnahan and Arnold Vosloo as the resurrected Imhotep, the film struck the perfect balance between horror, humor, and high-octane adventure.

The franchise spawned two sequels with The Mummy Returns in 2001 and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008. While the first sequel reunited the original cast, Weisz did not return for the third film, with Maria Bello stepping into the role of Evelyn.

The success of The Mummy Returns also launched The Scorpion King spin-off series, which went on to produce several sequels and prequels.

Now, after years of fan speculation and false starts, Universal seems ready to dig up the sands once again. The upcoming The Mummy 4 will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the filmmaking duo known collectively as Radio Silence. Their resume includes Devil’s Due, Ready or Not, Scream (2022), Scream VI, and Abigail. They’re also currently developing Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, set for release next April.

The new film’s script comes from David Coggeshall, with Sean Daniel, William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein producing. Details about the story are being kept tightly under wraps, and no release date has been announced yet.

The Mummy 4 isn’t the only mummy movie rising from the crypt. Lee Cronin is also working on a separate mummy project produced by Jason Blum and James Wan, slated to hit theaters next spring from Warner Bros. Pictures. That film stars Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, Verónica Falcón, and May Calamawy.

It’s been over 15 years since audiences last saw Rick O’Connell in action, and the idea of Fraser and Weisz reuniting for one more supernatural adventure is a film projects fans are sure to rally behind.

If Universal and Radio Silence can recapture the charm, wit, and wild energy of the original trilogy, The Mummy may rise again in epic fashion.
