Brian Cox Joins DEXTER: RESURRECTION Season 2 as the Infamous New York Ripper

The mystery hanging over Dexter: Resurrection just cracked wide open, and it comes with a killer casting reveal.

Brian Cox is stepping into Season 2 as the long-whispered New York Ripper, a name that’s been lurking in the shadows since the Season 1 finale. Now we finally know who’s behind it, and it’s a seriously awesome choice.

Cox, best known for his commanding presence in Succession and films like Nuremberg, is set to play a serial killer whose legacy still lingers long after his crimes stopped.

The twist is that he isn’t out there killing anymore. Instead, he’s found a way to keep his legend alive by tormenting the survivors of his past, which actually feels even more unsettling.

The groundwork for this reveal was laid in the Season 1 finale. Dexter Morgan, played by Michael C. Hall, uncovered a key clue tied to last season’s villain Leon Prater, played by Peter Dinklage.

Among Prater’s collection was a folder labeled “Don Frampt, New York Ripper.” Dexter didn’t stash it away as some creepy trophy. He kept it as a lead, and now it’s clear that lead is about to pay off in a big way.

Season 1, led by showrunner Clyde Phillips, picked up weeks after Dexter took a bullet to the chest from his own son. Waking from a coma, Dexter finds Harrison, played by Jack Alcott, gone without a trace. That sets him on a path to New York City, chasing redemption and hoping to fix what he broke.

Of course, things don’t stay simple for long. Angel Batista, played by David Zayas, shows up with questions, and suddenly Dexter’s past starts closing in. The story also leans into a father-son dynamic, pushing both characters into darker territory as they try to find a way forward in a city that doesn’t let secrets stay buried.

Season 1 brought together a solid lineup that included Uma Thurman as Charley, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara, Kadia Saraf as Detective Claudette Wallace, Dominic Fumusa as Detective Melvin Oliva, and Emilia Suárez as Elsa Rivera.

James Remar also returned as Harry Morgan, keeping that familiar voice in Dexter’s head alive. On top of that, guest appearances from Neil Patrick Harris, Krysten Ritter, Eric Stonestreet, and David Dastmalchian added some fun surprises along the way.

Details for Season 2 are still locked up tight, but adding Cox as the New York Ripper is great casting! If Dexter is following Prater’s list of killers, this could turn into something much bigger than a single target.
