Brie Larson Talks about Marvel's THE MARVELS Saying It's "Bonkers"
There’s a lot that we don’t know about Marvel’s upcoming Captain Marvel sequel titled The Marvels. But star Brie Larson recently opened up a bit about it in an interview with Uproxx, calling the film bonkers and that it reinvents things:
I wish I could talk about it. I can talk about my feelings around it. I can say that… I can’t say enough about how incredible our director, Nia DaCosta, is and what an honor it was to work with her, what an immense talent she is, how much I just feel like she’s the future. And I could also say that, when I read the script for the first time, I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I was like, this is bonkers. And it’s the thing that I love about Marvel, is that they continue to reinvent. They continue to do the thing that you just would never think would be possible in these films. And they’re not afraid to go there.
DaCosta is the director of Candyman, and she directs from a script written by Megan McDonnell, who is a story editor on the Marvel-based series WandaVision. The director previously said:
“I can say it’s a very different beast. But I am obsessed with how we all deal with our pain and trauma, and there’s some of that in the story.”
Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani and Teyonah Parris are also set to appear in the Captain Marvel sequel. It’s been teased by Marvel on multiple occasions that Captain Marvel is the most powerful hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but she wasn’t the one to take down Thanos, so that still has yet to be proven.
It’s been rumored that the movie will be heavily inspired by the Secret Invasion comic book storyline. This means there’s a good chance that will tie into Marvel’s Secret Invasion Disney+ series. The movie is also said to “include many important MCU characters,” with the film being described as a "mini-Avengers film."
Hopefully, this turns out to be a good sequel! For a lot of fans, it’s hard to get past the casting of Larson as Captain Marvel.
