Brief Teaser For MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Shares First Footage of He-Man’s Big Screen Return

The power of Grayskull is finally back. MGM and Mattel have released a little teaser for Masters of the Universe, a live-action fantasy adventure that brings the legendary 80s toy line and animated series to theaters in a big way.

This is a project fans have been waiting decades to see done right, there only a tiny bit of footage here, but it’s mostly promoting a proper teaser trailer that will be released tomorrow. This first bit of footage has me worried.

The film stars Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam, who is pulled back into his destiny after years away from his homeworld. Joining him are Camila Mendes, Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Morena Baccarin, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, and Charlotte Riley, with Kristen Wiig lending her voice to Roboto.

The cast also includes Jared Leto as the menacing Skeletor and Idris Elba as Duncan, better known as Man-At-Arms.

In the film, “After being separated for 15 years, the Sword of Power leads Prince Adam (Nicholas Galitzine) back to Eternia, where he discovers his home shattered under the fiendish rule of Skeletor (Jared Leto).

“To save his family and his world, Adam must join forces with his closest allies, Teela (Camila Mendes) and Duncan/Man-At-Arms (Idris Elba), and embrace his true destiny as He-Man — the most powerful man in the universe.”

The film is directed by Travis Knight, who has a strong track record blending spectacle with heart. The screenplay comes from Chris Butler, Aaron Nee, Adam Nee, and Dave Callaham, with the story developed by Nee, Nee, Alex Litvak, and Michael Finch.

This new take on Masters of the Universe looks like it’s aiming to balance nostalgia with scale, leaning into the fantasy and drama that made the franchise iconic in the first place. I really hope that this creative team can pull this off.

The movie is set for a theatrical release in the U.S. on June 5 through Sony Pictures International Releasing.
