Bruce Campbell Says EVIL DEAD RISE Audiences Will Be "Very Disturbed" and It Will Deliver the "Real S**t"
Bruce Campbell continues to get Evil Dead fans excited about the upcoming film Evil Dead Rise, which will be a very different entry in the horror franchise. One thing we know for sure is that it’s going to deliver a story that is sure to terrorize audiences.
During a recent interview with Bloody-Disgusting, Campbell teases the film’s horror saying it will disturb audiences, and that it will deliver the “real sh*t.” He shared:
"Lee Cronin did a really bang-up job. You can expect to be very disturbed. It's when mommies go bad. We dragged it out of the woods. We're in an urban environment, which gives it a really gnarly feel. I think people are in for trouble. I feel sorry for audiences in advance!"
Campbell went on to compare this film to the 2013 reboot, which was directed by Fede Alvarez, saying:
"Both filmmakers are equally capable individuals, so they both really just spanked it. It's not a yuk-fest. It's not hardy-har-har. It's not Ash shooting finger guns. This is real sh-t going down. These guys took it real seriously. Lee Cronin is Irish, and he brings kind of a European feel to this thing."
The actor and producer went on to talk about how he and his collaborators were involved and highly invested in the development of the film:
"I spent a month and a half in Europe last year on the post-production and all the sound. We sort of split up our duties. I like to get involved in the casting and post-production. Rob Tapert oversees the production in New Zealand. And Sam Raimi's the Great Poobah. He's the orchestrator. He makes sure it fits the Evil Dead mold."
Campbell then teased the special effects in the film, saying:
"No one will ever be able to make fun of the Evil Dead special effects ever again as long as I'm alive. They used to love to do that; cheese-ball effects, garden hoses spewing stuff," the filmmaker admitted. "Well, you know what? Eat it, bitches, because this is good stuff you're about to see!"
In the film, “a road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A apartment. The sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”
The movie was directed by Lee Cronin, and was also produced by Sam Raimi. Raimi previously teased that the movie will be “terrifying” and “knock people's socks off.” Campbell also said that Evil Dead Rise is going to be a "much more excruciating" experience from an emotional level, and you can feel that in this trailer!
The movie stars Alyssa Sutherland (Vikings) and Lily Sullivan (Picnic At Hanging Rock).Gabrielle Echols (Reminiscence), Morgan Davies (The End), and Nell Fisher (Splendid Isolation). Evil Dead Rise is slated to hit theaters on April 21, 2023.
