Bruce Campbell Says His SPIDER-MAN and DOCTOR STRANGE Characters Are The Same Person and He's In Talks with Marvel

Bruce Campbell has shown up in a few Marvel films over the course of his career… at least all of the Marvel movies directed by Sam Raimi. He has small cameo appearances in Raimi’s three Spider-Man movies and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. When Raimi was developing his scrapped Spider-Man 4 project, Campbell was going to play Mysterio, which would’ve been fun to see!

During an interview with CB, Campbell was asked about the fan theory that he is a version of Mysterio in the Marvel universe and his response to that was:

"You're assuming that I know anything about Marvel lore, and I appreciate that. I watched Doctor Strange in a movie theater, and I was like, 'What the flying hell are they talking about?" And then there was a guy who was an assistant type guy, and I was talking to him about it, and I go, 'Man, there's a lot of words, a lot of dialogue,' and he goes, 'Oh, no, no. I needed all of that. I needed to know all of that. I'm so grateful for that movie.' And I'm like, 'OK pal.' So, yeah, I don't know."

Campbell then went on to confirm that his cameo roles in these Marvel movies are all the same character and they’re all connected through the multiverse. He also said that he’s been in talks with Marvel about returning to the MCU:

"The cameos are like, in the Spider-Man movies -- if you know anything about the multiverse, you know now, retroactively, I'm in the multiverse now because of Doctor Strange. I'm not a pizza vendor, OK? That would be a massive mistake to think I'm just a pizza vendor, or an usher, or a ring announcer, or a maître d'. It's called the multiverse, my friend. So, yes, he is the same character, but we don't know who he really is. It has not been revealed yet. I just got off the phone with the guys at Marvel, and we're getting close to finding out."

It’s cool that Marvel is actually looking at exploring this idea with Campbell and it will be really interesting to see how they continue to play with and explore Campbell’s character. When asked about the possibility of Mysterio again and if he will come from the same universe as Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker, he said: "I can't confirm or deny.”

Maybe his character will be revealed as the real Kang The Conqueror!
