Bruce Campbell Says The New EVIL DEAD RISE Movie "Does Not Suck"

Bruce Campbell sure does enjoy hyping up the new Evil Dead film, Evil Dead Rise, every chance he gets. The film is directed by Lee Cronin and it serves as a continuation of the mythology of the franchise.

Evil Dead Rise tells “a twisted tale of two estranged sisters, played by Sutherland and Sullivan, whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.”

One of the big differences in this next Evil Dead film is that it’s set in a big city and that’s going to make things interesting. In a recent interview with Collider, Campbell said that the movie "doesn't suck” and that it feels "very European." Here’s his quote:

"It is [exciting] because it actually does not suck in the least. Lee Cronin did a great job. [Original director] Sam [Raimi] picks these director types who've had some experience, but we can still sort of shove them into the Evil Dead box a little bit since these are Maverick-type directors.

"I give Sam credit, he's not picking people, we're just gonna mimic his shit. They come with very strong personalities and approaches. It's a very European Evil Dead."

Producer Sam Raimi previously teased that the movie will be “terrifying” and “knock people's socks off”. Campbell also said that Evil Dead Rise is going to be a "much more excruciating" experience from an emotional level, saying:

"This one's dark, this one's pretty serious. Good, strong performances. It's a single mom who now has to deal with this book. These days it's more about the book. That book gets around, that book is handed around, passed along, people try and get rid of it, they try to bury it or destroy it and they really can't. So this book just keeps popping up, so really it's just another story of what happens if this book appears in this particular group of people's lives and how it intersects."

Evil Dead Rise is expected to hit HBO Max this year, and I’m excited to watch it!
