Bruce Campbell's ASH VS EVIL DEAD Costars Think They Can Bring Him Out of EVIL DEAD Retirement

Bruce Campbell has made it very clear on several occasions that he has retired from the role of Ash in the Evil Dead franchise. Not even director Sam Raimi, his best friend, can get him to step back on the chainsaw hand again! But, Campbell’s Ash Vs Evil Dead costars Dana DeLorenzo and Ray Santiago think they could do it.

During a recent interview with Comic Book, DeLorenzo said:

“I honestly feel like never say never. There have been shows where they get cancelled but then they’re picked up by another network. I know Bruce has said he is in retirement, but I feel like Ray and I could convince him.”

Santiago agreed and added:

“I think enough time has passed by. He just needs a good one or two years of just like chilling in the woods and not having the Boomstick in his hands and then he starts to crave it and it’ll come back.”

I don’t know. I’d be super surprised if Campbell came back to the role. Raimi and Campbell plan on producing multiple new Evil Dead movies, but Ash will not be a part of it. The current movie they are developing will focus on a whole new character who will find himself or herself facing off with evil. They are also bringing in a new filmmaker to helm it.

When previously talking about passing the franchise on to a new character, Campbell said:

“It’s okay to pass it along to another idiot to try and stop evil from destroying the world. One idiot tried—he did pretty good. It’s time to let other innocent people with no skills try to save the world. And there’s more stories to tell.

“So we think we have a cool premise. We have a new filmmaker that Sam Raimi has hand-chosen. So he’s very involved in it. We’ll be involved in the story, and we’ll try and make sure the actors don’t completely suck. And then we’re gonna make another one, yeah. There’s lots of stories…creepy books…lots of people to torment.”

I’ve been a fan of this franchise ever since saw Army of Darkness in theaters, which was my introduction to Ash Williams and while he won’t be a part of the franchise’s future, I’m still excited for what is coming!
