Bryce Dallas Howard Breaks STAR WARS Directing Record After Wrapping AHSOKA Season 2: “If I Can Be of Service to Lucasfilm, I Will”
Bryce Dallas Howard has quietly become one of the most important creative voices in Star Wars. After directing two episodes of Ahsoka Season 2, Howard now holds the record for the most live-action Star Wars episodes directed by any filmmaker, even surpassing George Lucas himself.
Howard has directed seven episodes across The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Skeleton Crew, and now Ahsoka. That’s three more than the franchise’s creator, and she’s not ready to stop anytime soon.
“I love it so, so, so much. I yearn to stay on this path of being able to be in that world, and grow, and learn and challenge myself.
“But also, it's not just about me. It's about the medium. For me, I've let go of wishing or yearning for something that is specific in terms of results, like film, animation, streaming. Whatever it is, if I can be of service to Lucasfilm, I will.”
Howard’s deep connection to the Star Wars universe goes beyond her directing record, it’s part of her family legacy. Her father, Ron Howard, directed Solo: A Star Wars Story, bringing Han Solo’s origin tale to life.
She’s also quick to praise the creative environment Lucasfilm fosters, noting how the studio gives filmmakers both freedom and support.
“They're [Star Wars creatives] very efficient in terms of resources, because they…want to stretch [the budget] as far as you can. You want every dollar to be onscreen. And sometimes, as everyone knows, the limitations obviously often give birth to the greatest ideas.
“When it comes down to it, if you need the thing to happen, it can happen on a Star Wars set. And as a filmmaker, there's no greater privilege.”
At LA Comic-Con, Howard couldn’t hide her excitement about what fans can expect from Ahsoka Season 2.
“Y'all, it's so good. It's SO good. It is beautiful; it is thrilling; it is adventurous; it is romantic. It's all the things that you want from an epic story. I just got to finish that up and [am] working on the cut, and it is just one of the greatest privileges and joys of my life, getting to play in that sandbox.”
With Howard’s growing presence behind the camera, Star Wars continues to thrive under the guidance of creators who truly love the galaxy far, far away.
Her episodes are consistently praised for their emotion, pacing, and cinematic scale, and now, she’s earned her place as one of Lucasfilm’s most vital storytellers.
Ahsoka Season 2 is set to premiere in early 2026.
