Bucky Barnes Will Lead the Thunderbolts in Marvel's Highly-Anticipated Film
When Marvel first announced its Thunderbolts movie, there was a lot of excitment from the fans because this is a team that fans have been wanting to see come together.
That team consists of Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julie Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and of course, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova. Then there’s Harrison Ford, who is taking on the role of General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross and he’s also going to be president of the united states in Captain America: New World Order.
We have now learned a new detail about the Thunderbolts team from Kevin Feige, and it turns out that Bucky Barnes is set to lead the team in the movie. He told Entertainment Weekly:
"What's fun about that, and I sort of said this at D23, is that they are barely heroes. None of them would consider themselves heroes. When your de facto leader is Bucky Barnes, that's sort of all you need to know. That's the trickle down."
That’s the first time I’ve heard that Barnes would be leading the team. It’s a pretty cool little development, and it will be interesting to see Barnes take on a leadership position like this. This is going to make for a very fun dynamic, especially considering who makes up the team.
The movie is still two years away from being released, but Harbour previously hyped it up teasing:
“We introduce a thing that’s super cool. It’s vital. I’m psyched that Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character is going to be, in a bigger way, explored. One of the things you’ll probably know is that the me and Florence dynamic will be in there and explored in a way that’s really cool. But all these guys, Sebastian’s character, Wyatt’s character, I just love this mercenary element in the MCU. MCU has always been sort of elevated in a certain way. Captain America, even Iron Man, although he has egos, are always in it for the right reasons or ultimately does the right thing. And I like these guys who are a bunch of losers or a bunch of guys who can’t quite get it right.”
We have no idea what the thing is, but I hope it lives up to the hype! The film is being directed by Jake Schreier (Paper Towns, Kidding), from a script by Eric Pearson (Thor: Ragnarok, Black Widow) and Kurt Busiek. Thunderbolts is set to premiere on July 26th, 2023.
