BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Sequel Series with Sarah Michelle Gellar in Development at Hulu

I’e got some pretty exciting news for all the Buffy The Vampire Slayer fans out there as a sequel series is currently in development and it’s nearing a pilot order at Hulu.

Variety is also reporting that Sarah Michelle Gellar is in final talks to reprise her role as the iconic title character in the project. While Gellat will come back, the new series is said to focus on a new Slayer. Gellar would appear in a recurring role rather than leading the series.

Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman (Poker Face) are attached to write, showrun, and executive produce. Chloé Zhao (Nomadland, Eternals) is also attached to direct and executive produce the series.

Gellar will also come on board as an executive produce along with Gail Berman, Fran Kuzui, and Kaz Kuzui. Dolly Parton will also executive produce via Sandollar. Berman, the Kuzuis, and Parton were all executive producers on the original Buffy series.

I’d love to see a the story of Buffy continue in a really cool, fun, and unique way. I’d love to see what the creative plans are for it! I’m sure we’ll eventually find out.

The creator of the series, Joss Whedon, will not be involved with the project, which shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone after accusations of creating a toxic work environment on both the original series.

As a longtime fan of the original series, I’m excited to see that we might actually be getting a sequel series! The show has become a cult classic and is credited for helping to popularize ongoing story arcs in television while also building a show around a strong female lead.

There was an attempt to reboot the Buffy series in 2018 with Monica Owusu-Breen working on it with Whedon onboard as an executive producer. Ultimately, that project obviously never moved forward.
