Cameron Diaz Is Bringing Back TROOP BEVERLY HILLS With Clea DuVall Directing

Break out the designer canteens, because Troop Beverly Hills is gearing up for a comeback. Cameron Diaz is officially developing a sequel to the beloved 1989 comedy, and she’s teaming up with Clea DuVall to bring it to life.

If you grew up with the Wilderness Girls, this one’s going to hit that sweet spot of nostalgia and curiosity. The project is currently in development at TriStar Pictures, with DuVall set to write and direct.

Diaz is also circling a starring role, which makes this even more interesting. There’s no word yet on the story, but revisiting the wildly unconventional troop from Beverly Hills could be a fun ride for fans of the original film.

The original Troop Beverly Hills starred Shelley Long as Phyllis Nefler, a wealthy Beverly Hills mom navigating a messy divorce while trying to prove herself to her daughter. Her solution? Lead a troop of Wilderness Girls despite having zero survival skills.

Instead of roughing it in the traditional sense, Phyllis leaned into what she knew best. Luxury, style, and confidence. She turned high-end life skills into unexpected tools for leadership, proving you don’t need to build a fire to keep a group together.

The film was inspired by real experiences from producer Ava Fries, and it was directed by Jeff Kanew, with a screenplay by Pamela Norris and Margaret Oberman. Its cast included Craig T. Nelson, Betty Thomas, Mary Gross, and early appearances from Jenny Lewis, Kellie Martin, Carla Gugino, and Tori Spelling.

This sequel also marks another collaboration between Diaz and Sony, a studio she’s had major success with thanks to hits like Charlie’s Angels, The Holiday, and Bad Teacher, each pulling in over $200 million globally.

After stepping away from acting for more than a decade, Diaz made her return in Back in Action alongside Jamie Foxx. She’s not slowing down either, with upcoming roles in Outcome with Jonah Hill, Keanu Reeves, and Matt Bomer, plus a return as Princess Fiona in Shrek 5 and a role in the Netflix action-comedy Bad Day.

DuVall, meanwhile, is no stranger to character-driven comedy. She previously worked with TriStar on Happiest Season, the holiday rom-com starring Kristen Stewart, which became a massive streaming hit when it debuted on Hulu.

There’s no release date or plot details yet, but if Troop Beverly Hills captures even a fraction of the original’s charm while giving it a fresh perspective, this could be a seriously fun revival.
