Carrie-Anne Moss' Jedi Character in STAR WARS: THE ACOLYTE Is "Very Much Inspired by Trinity"
One of the main things that I’m looking forward to seeing in Lucasfilm’s upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte is Carrie’Anne Moss’ Jedi character in action.
I’m just such a big fan of Moss, and I think it’s pretty cool that she has joined the Star Wars universe. Sure, it may not be a project a lot of fans are excited about, but I hope that she gets to play an awesome character in it!
Moss plays Jedi Master Indara in the series, and she’s experienced in the ways of the Force and martial arts. We get a little tease of her “Force-fu” in action in the trailer that was released.
During a recent interview with Empire, series creator Leslye Headland said that it was a “no-brainer” to cast Moss in the role, and confirmed that her character “is very much inspired by Trinity.” She wants fans to see Indara as “Trinity with a lightsaber.”
Headland added: “I personally wanted to see someone who had the highest status you could imagine in a Force-fu fight – somebody that would come in and you immediately would be like, ‘Oh, that’s the most powerful Jedi in the room.’ And that’s Trinity.”
Moss went on to share her thoughts on playing this character saying: “I felt that a few times in my career with some of the big things I’ve done – Memento, The Matrix – where you’re talking to the filmmaker and you just go, ‘Oh, they totally get it.’”
She continued: “Within my soul and my spirit, to get to play this Jedi Master and train for the fight was [an] amazing experience. A part of me forgot how much I love action. I love it. It’s hard. But I was just really thrilled that I could do it, and I wanted to do it well. ‘Gimme another take! Gimme another take!’”
It was previously revealed that Moss’s character is a Jedi warrior who is known to defeat her enemies without using her Lightsaber, so the Sith assassin vows to learn martial arts and kill the Jedi Master only using her hand-to-hand combat skills.
In the series, Amandla Steinberg is a former Padawan and dangerous warrior who is hunting down and killing Jedi.
The story is described as “a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.” The High Republic is set 100 years before the Skywalker Saga begins.
In The Acolyte, “An investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems…."
The series also stars Squid Game’s Lee Jung-jae stars as the Jedi Master, Manny Jacinto, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman, Carrie-Anne Moss, Margarita Levieva, Joonas Suotamo, and Amy Tsang.
The Acolyte will have eight episodes in total, with Headland, Garcia Lopez, and Kogonada directing episodes of the series. It’s set to premiere on June 4, 2024, on Disney+.
