CASTLE ROCK Star Andre Holland is Reportedly Up For the Villain Role in Marvel's BLACK WIDOW

We’ve got some more potential casting news regarding Marvel Studios’ Black Widow. Just yesterday we learned that Emma Watson (Harry Potter) is wanted for a female led in the film and now today we’ve learned that Marvel has their eye on someone to play the villain.

It was already reported that the studio is looking for “a Black British or African actor” between the ages of 30 and 45 to take on the role. One of the actors they are currently looking at is Castle Rock star Andre Holland.

Holland is one of several actors who are reading for the role, but according to That Hashtag Show, “his audition caught the attention of Marvel Studios who are said to be hoping to find the right mix of a powerful, confident actor who can pull off smart and sexy.”

Holland is a great actor. I really liked his work in Castle Rock, so if he actually did end up landing the part, I’d support the decision.

The report also shared information on a couple of other characters who will appear in the film. Apparently Black Widow will feature an older male and older female in supporting roles.

These roles, it seems, are tied together and will be playing Americans in the film and there is some indication that they may be working with the film’s main villain. The studio is interested in exploring some big names here with Rachel Weisz in the mix for the female role and actors such as Sebastian Koch and Alec Bladwin mentioned for the male role. Casting for these roles will take priority for the studio after they’ve cast the main villain’s role.

It’s cool to see this long-awaited movie coming together! Cate Shortland (Lore, Berlin Syndrome) is directing from a script written by Jac Shaeffer (Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, The Hustle).

The story is rumored to be set in 2006, which is a couple years prior to the events of Iron Man. The characters Ref Guardian and Taskmaster are also rumored to be a part of the story.

The movie is expected to be released at some point in 2020.
