Cate Blanchett Defends BORDERLANDS After Bad Reviews Hit - "It’s Fun, Fun, Fun, But it’s Not Citizen Kane!"

The reviews for Borderlands have not been good. In fact, the last I checked the movie had a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is bonkers!

Could this movie really be as bad as critics are saying it is!? Probably, but I’m going to watch it anyway to make up my own mind, and I’m just curious to see how bad the movie actually is.

Cate Blanchett, who stars in Borderlands, is now defending the film and the actors who star in it. She is also telling audiences to not take her latest film too seriously because they whole thing is supposed to be wacky fun.

In a recent interview with USA Today Blanchett said: “Jamie’s just exceptional. And when Gina walked on set, it was like va-va-voom, as it always is with her.

“I mean, it’s not The Grapes of Wrath. It’s not Blade Runner. It’s its own strange, weird thing, and when you look at the casting, there’s a motley quality to it. We’re a very motley crew, in life and in art. I don’t think anyone would call Borderlands art, but it’s fun.”

She also has a message to those who have bashed the film before it’s even been released, saying: “People say, ‘Oh, that was a flop’ or ‘that was a hit.’”

“But sometimes the films we hold up as the greatest of all time were not financial or audience successes, yet they’ve become classics. I’m not saying Borderlands is a classic! It’s fun, fun, fun, but it’s not Citizen Kane!”

Yeah, I wouldn’t bet on Borderlands becoming a classic film, but it might be a fun one-time viewing experience for some people.

It’s a shame that the movie is being bombarded by terrible reviews, but when I heard Eli Roth was directing it, I knew it wasn’t going to be good.

In the film, “Lilith, an infamous bounty hunter with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home, Pandora, the most chaotic planet in the galaxy. Her mission is to find the missing daughter of Atlas, the universe’s most powerful S.O.B.

“Lilith forms an unexpected alliance with a ragtag team of misfits – Roland, a seasoned mercenary on a mission; Tiny Tina, a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg, Tina’s musclebound protector; Tannis, the oddball scientist who’s seen it all; and Claptrap, a wiseass robot.

“Together, these unlikely heroes must battle an alien species and dangerous bandits to uncover one of Pandora’s most explosive secrets.

“The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other. Based on one of the best-selling videogame franchises of all time, welcome to BORDERLANDS.”

The movie stars Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Jamie Lee Curtis as Tannis, Kevin Hart as Roland, Jack Black's character Claptrap, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, and Florian Munteanu as Krieg.

Borderlands will be released in theaters on August 9, 2024.
