Cate Blanchett Says Marvel Studios "Aren't Used to Having a Whole Script" During Production
Cate Blanchett, who took on the role of Hela in Thor: Ragnarok, recently opened up working with Marvel Studios and she conforms to something that fans all suspected: Marvel goes into production on most, if not all of their films without a complete script.
During an interview with GQ, Blanchett said that Marvel Studios "aren't necessarily used to having a whole script," and that movies can really begin production once they have a few action sequences sketched out.
She describes the process as "working backward." She said: "Marvel aren't necessarily used to having a whole script. Often, they will board the essential battles and then they'll start working backwards and construct their stories.”
“It's a whole, massive jigsaw puzzle, I don't know. What I didn't realize then was [it was] the first time a female villain had been realized onscreen, so that was exciting, but I knew Taika [Waititi] was going to put his own particular spin on it, and that Chris [Hemsworth] was so up for anything and incredibly generous and funny and ready to move this in another direction, so it felt like there was a really playful, exciting energy."
It’s really not the most effective way to make a movie, but it did work for Marvel until it didn’t, and things started to get really messy.
