Cate Blanchett Says "No One Got Paid Anything" to Film THE LORD OF THE RINGS, Just Free Food
Cate Blanchett recently talked about her time working on Peter Jackman’s The Lord of the Rings, and while the trilogy of films made $2.9 billion worldwide, the actors in the film hardly made anything.
While appearing on Watch What Happens Live, host Andy Cohen asked Blanchett what film she received the biggest paycheck for and he guessed it was The Lord of the Rings.
Blanchett replied: “Are you kidding me? No, no one got paid anything to do that movie.”
Cohen then asked asked her if she “got a piece of the backend,” to which Blanchett replied, “No! That was way before any of that. No, nothing.”
The actress continued: “I wanted to work with the guy who made Braindead,” referring to Jackson and his 1992 zombie comedy film, which was released as Dead Alive in the United States.
She then added: “I basically got free sandwiches, and I got to keep my [elf] ears.” She later said, “Women don’t get paid much as you think they do.”
That pretty insane that she hardly made anything while shooting The Lord of the Rings, it sounds like they got paid the bare minimum.
The entire trilogy of those epic fantasy films had a budget of $281 million, and you can see all of that money on the screen. They fact they pulled that off is an incredible feat.
Also, Cate Banchett as Galadriel was perfect casting and she was amazing in the role!
