Channing Tatum Could Be Gearing Up To Direct GAMBIT
Not long after a rumor broke that Gambit was dead at Fox, Deadline posted an update that Channing Tatum might be pushing to direct the film himself.
Tatum has been trying to get this film project off the ground for years and over the years it’s gone through several different directors, who have come and gone. Those directors include Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow), Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean), and Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island).
When reporting that the actor recently parted ways with his longtime reps at UTA and Management 360, Deadline reported:
“He has been trying to get going the X-Men spinoff Gambit. He has long been slotted to play the charming card-throwing mutant, and buzz has been that he might direct the film after several other filmmakers have been in and out. But there is no start date at this point and it’s still being worked on.”
So, he’s finally reached the point where he’s just looking to do the damn thing himself so that the film actually gets made. With Tatum being 100% committed to the project, he’s not going to walk away from it.
But, who knows if he will get a chance to make it with Disney buying Fox. Gambit might not be a movie that they want to make. If Tatum and Fox want to make this movie happen they will have to start work on it crazy soon!
Tatum has never directed a feature film before, so if this actually happens, it will be his first.
Gambit was supposed to be released on June 7th, 2019, but at this point that’s not going to happen. Even if the movie happens, that date is going to have to be pushed back.
