Channing Tatum Hopes and Prays That DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE Leads to a GAMBIT Solo Film
After finally getting to play Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, Channing Tatum is hoping and praying that it leads to a Gambit solo film.
The actor was recently asked by Variety if there was a possibility of this happening, and he replied: “I sure hope so. From your mouth to God’s ears. Write it into existence, my friend. Please.”
He goes on to say that this is a project that he still very much wants to see happen and it’s something that he’s talked to Marvel Studios about.
He said: “Of course I’ve said it. I’ve been saying I want it for the last 10 years. It’s in Bob Iger and Kevin Feige’s hands. I pray to God.”
Tatum thanked Ryan Reynolds in an Instagram post for the opportunity to play Gambit, saying: “I thought I had lost Gambit forever” but Reynolds “fought for me and Gambit.”
He also wrote: “I will owe him probably forever. Cause I’m not sure how I could ever do something that would be equal to what this has meant to me. I love ya buddy.”
Tatum also praised Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy as “a brilliant creator on every single level.”
He added: “All things happen for a reason. I’m so grateful to be in this movie. It’s a masterpiece in my opinion. And just pure bad ass joy. I was literally screaming in the theater. LFG!!”
The big question is, will Tatum actually ever get his Gambit solo film? There is certainly an opportunity to do it, but I’ll be surprised if Marvel and Disney actually do it because I don’t think they will.
Reynolds had to fight to get Gambit in the movie, and while he’s a favorite among fans, it feels like Gambit’s appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine is a one and done. I hope I’m wrong, though. What do you all think?
