Charlie Cox Really Wants Us to “Believe” He Isn’t in AVENGERS: SECRET WARS
At this point, asking a Marvel actor whether they’re secretly appearing in an upcoming MCU movie is practically a game. They deny it, fans immediately become suspicious, and Marvel Studios sits somewhere in the middle guarding its secrets like classified government documents.
Now Charlie Cox is getting in on the fun, insisting that Daredevil won’t be appearing in Avengers: Secret Wars. More importantly, he really, really wants us to believe him.
During an appearance at MCM Birmingham in the UK, Cox was asked whether Matt Murdock could make the jump to Secret Wars following Avengers: Doomsday.
His response was pretty definitive. "No, I'm not going to be in – no," he said. "Yes, sorry. And you can believe me now!"
Can we, Charlie? Can we really? To be fair, there’s currently nothing official connecting Daredevil to either of Marvel Studios’ upcoming Avengers movies.
Cox isn’t included on the announced Avengers: Doomsday cast list, and Marvel hasn’t revealed the cast for Avengers: Secret Wars yet.
So Cox could absolutely be telling the truth. Matt Murdock might simply sit this massive multiversal adventure out. But it is rumored that The Defenders will have a significant role in the film.
Marvel has trained its audience to question everything its actors say about secret appearances. We’ve been through this routine enough times that a firm denial doesn’t necessarily close the case.
Just look at what Marvel did to conceal Chris Evans and his return as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday. The studio apparently went so far as to give Evans a completely different Marvel identity during production. His codename was Luke Cage.
Evans explained the elaborate effort to keep his involvement under wraps while appearing at Fan Expo Boston.
"Within the script, my character was called Luke Cage just in case things leaked. On the call sheets, I was called Luke Cage. Even on set, if I was going to set, they'd be like, 'Luke Cage is travelling.' It was such a locked-down thing."
That’s exactly why it’s difficult to take any MCU casting denial as the final word. When Marvel is willing to turn Steve Rogers into Luke Cage on scripts and call sheets just to protect a surprise, Cox saying “believe me” isn’t exactly airtight evidence.
Maybe Daredevil really isn’t in Secret Wars. Maybe Cox hasn’t received a call. Maybe Marvel has him listed as Howard the Duck on every production document. Who knows?
What we do know is that Doomsday already has plenty of Marvel heavy hitters involved. Even if Daredevil doesn’t join the Avengers for their next gigantic MCU battle, fans won’t have to wait too long to see Cox suit up again. Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 is scheduled to debut in March 2027, and Elodie Yung will also return as Elektra.
That gives Matt Murdock plenty to deal with before we start worrying about whether he’ll find himself caught up in whatever multiversal madness Marvel has planned for Secret Wars.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
So, Charlie Cox says he isn’t in Secret Wars, and he says we can believe him.
Sure, Charlie.
We’ll believe you.
Probably.
