Charlie Cox Says Daredevil Won't Be in an Avengers Movie Anytime Soon - "Marvel Have Been Clear With Me"
Fans hoping to see the Man Without Fear trading punches alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes might need to temper expectations. Charlie Cox has opened up about his current place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and for now, it sounds like Daredevil is staying firmly rooted in his own corner of the franchise.
During a recent chat on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Cox addressed the question a lot of fans have been asking ever since his appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Could Matt Murdock show up in something like Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars?
Cox didn’t dance around it. “Marvel have been clear with me for now at least that I'm focusing on the show, that's our focus,” he said. “That really is the truth.”
So if you were picturing Daredevil popping up in a massive crossover brawl anytime soon, that doesn’t seem to be in the cards right now. Marvel’s priority is clearly centered on the Disney+ side of things, specifically Daredevil: Born Again.
That said, Cox isn’t shutting the door completely. He understands exactly why fans want to see these crossovers happen. “It's one of the things that obviously the fans of the MCU love it, when the characters clash. So we'll see, but right now I'm certainly focusing on the show.”
At the moment, Cox is deep into production on Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 in New York City. Details about where the story is headed are still under wraps, even with some chatter leaking out from Mike Colter. Cox is keeping things close to the chest, which honestly just adds to the anticipation.
What’s clear is that he’s nowhere near done with the character. In fact, he sounds more committed than ever. He brought up a recent comic by Charles Soule titled Daredevil: A Cold Day in Hell, where an older Matt Murdock is still in the fight.
“Charles Soule, who is a wonderful comic book writer, just released a new Daredevil run called A Cold Day in Hell, in which I think Matt Murdock is in his late 60s, 70s. Charles sent it to me and I read it and I like, 'It's so wonderful, so beautiful. Well, there you go, that buys me another 20 years.'”
While Daredevil might not be assembling with the Avengers anytime soon, Cox isn’t planning to hang up the suit. If anything, he’s just getting started again.
For now, the streets of Hell’s Kitchen are where the action is. And that’s not a bad place for Daredevil to be.
