Charlie Cox Says He’s NOT in SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY… But Fans Aren’t Totally Convinced
There’s been a lot of speculation swirling around Spider-Man: Brand New Day, especially after that first trailer dropped and seemed packed with familiar faces from the Daredevil corner of the MCU.
Naturally, fans started asking the big question… is Matt Murdock back? According to Charlie Cox, the answer is pretty straightforward. Or at least, it sounds that way.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Cox was asked if he had checked out the new trailer. His response was honest and a little surprising:
"I'm sorry I haven't seen it.”
Of course, that led to the follow-up everyone wanted answered. Would Daredevil show up in Spidey’s next adventure? Cox didn’t dance around it:
"No…I'm not in the movie."
That should settle it, right? Well… maybe not. Cox added just enough mischief to keep fans guessing:
"But I could be lying. But I'm not. Definitely not in the movie. I was in the last one."
He’s referring to his brief but awesome appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which marked his official entry into the MCU films after the Netflix run. And while that cameo was small, it made a big impression.
Interestingly, Cox also mentioned he doesn’t "think" Daredevil will appear in Avengers: Doomsday either, which might cool expectations a bit across the board.
Even with Cox saying he’s out, the Brand New Day trailer still carries a heavy Daredevil vibe. Characters tied to that world are all over the footage, making his absence feel a little strange.
One of the more exciting characters in the film is Jon Bernthal returning as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, and it looks like he’s crossing paths with Peter Parker in a pretty wild way.
Cox even joked about Bernthal’s involvement and how it might affect Daredevil: Born Again:
"He was gallivanting with Spider-Man the entire time."
On top of that, the trailer shows Spidey going up against a group of red-cloaked ninjas, widely recognized as The Hand. Fans of the Netflix series and The Defenders will know exactly how dangerous that group can be, and their presence adds another strong connection to Daredevil’s world.
Tom Holland is back in action, Mark Ruffalo shows up as Bruce Banner, and villains like Scorpion and Boomerang are entering the mix. There’s also the mystery surrounding Sadie Sink’s character, with some fans speculating she could be Jean Grey.
With so many characters already in play, it actually makes sense that Daredevil might sit this one out. Still, Marvel has a habit of keeping secrets, and Cox’s playful comments aren’t exactly shutting the door completely.
For now, though, take him at his word… Daredevil isn’t swinging into this story.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 26, and if that trailer is any indication, it’s going to be a chaotic, action-packed ride whether Matt Murdock shows up or not.
