Charlie Day Wants a LUIGI’S MANSION Movie and It Could Make a Great Spooky Fun Movie!
The world of Mario movies is about to get even bigger with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on the way, but one of its stars is already looking ahead to what could be the next awesome Nintendo adaptation. If things go his way, we might be heading straight into a haunted house with Luigi.
Charlie Day, who voices Luigi, recently shared that he’s all in on bringing Luigi’s Mansion to the big screen, and the idea actually makes a ton of sense.
For anyone who’s played the games, Luigi’s Mansion has always had a slightly different vibe from the mainline Mario adventures.
It leans into spooky fun, ghost hunting, and a nervous hero who’s way out of his comfort zone. That tone could translate into something really fun and unique for a movie audience. Day said:
"I would be thrilled to do Luigi's Mansion, just because it's such a fun game,"
He also pointed out that the movie could play with some light horror elements without going too far:
"And not that you would make it like a horror movie for kids, but it could have some more sort of jump scares in it, which would be fun."
That idea got a playful reaction from his co-stars. Keegan-Michael Key, who voices Toad, chimed in with: "Everybody loves a jump scare." While Anya Taylor-Joy, who plays Peach, added: "Especially three-year-olds."
That mix of humor and spooky energy is exactly why Luigi’s Mansion could stand out from the rest of the Mario franchise on screen.
It wouldn’t just be another colorful adventure, it could lean into eerie environments, ghost designs, and Luigi’s anxious personality in a way that feels fresh.
Day wrapped it up with a pretty honest take on the whole idea:
"It does seem like it would make a great movie, But I am not... They don't put me in charge of movie studios and for good reason.
“I got no idea… I wouldn't want the job, personally. Don't give me that. It'd be a lot of pressure. But if they do it, I'm in."
For a little background, Luigi’s Mansion first launched on the Nintendo GameCube back in 2001. Instead of jumping on Goombas, Luigi explored a creepy mansion using a vacuum-like device from Professor E. Gadd to suck up ghosts.
The series has since grown with sequels on Nintendo 3DS and Switch, bringing back fan-favorite characters like King Boo.
As for what’s next, Day is already reprising his role in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which hits theaters on April 1. He’ll be joined again by Chris Pratt as Mario, Jack Black as Bowser, and Taylor-Joy as Peach.
The sequel is also expanding the universe with Brie Larson as Rosalina, Donald Glover as Yoshi, and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr.
If The Super Mario Galaxy Movie ends up being a big hit with fans, a Luigi’s Mansion spin-off doesn’t feel like a long shot at all. This sounds like a really fun next step for this franchise.
