Final Trailer For THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE Launches Mario and Friends Into a Cosmic Adventure

Nintendo and Illumination have unleashed one final trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and it’s a big and exciting one! Fans were already pumped to see Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, and the rest of the Mushroom Kingdom crew return to the big screen, but Nintendo decided to give everyone one last preview before launch.

The trailer debuted during a movie-focused Nintendo Direct presentation and it offers the most expansive look yet at the upcoming animated sequel. This new footage leans heavily into the cosmic setting, colorful worlds, and high-energy action fans expect from a story inspired by the beloved Super Mario Galaxy games.

The trailer also came with a few casting reveals that are pretty fun. Wart will be voiced by Luis Guzman, Honey Queen will be played by Issa Rae, and perhaps the most surprising addition is Donald Glover joining the cast as Yoshi.

Apparently there are still more surprises waiting in the movie, but fans will have to discover those when the film actually hits theaters.

Visually, the movie looks fantastic. The animation pops with vibrant galaxies, strange planets, and classic Mario power-ups flying across the screen. The tone also seems to lean into the goofy humor and playful chaos that helped make the first film a massive box office success.

At the same time, it’s still a little unclear how deep the story will go. The footage focuses heavily on spectacle, with less emphasis on character moments.

The real trick for a sequel like this is landing that balance between longtime fans who grew up with the games and the younger audience discovering Mario for the first time. If the film pulls that off, this franchise could easily keep expanding.

Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are back at the helm after the success of the previous film. The voice cast is once again packed with big names including Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, Benny Safdie, Kevin Michael Richardson, and Brie Larson.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie arrives in theaters on April 1.
