Charlize Theron Gets Back in Spy Mode with Universal Thriller NEED TO KNOW
Last year, we learned that Charlize Theron was set to star in a spy thriller called The Coldest City from the directors of John Wick. That project is still on, but in the meantime, the Oscar-winning actress has locked down an entirely different spy thriller.
Deadline reports that she'll star in and produce Need to Know, a CIA suspense movie based on an upcoming novel by writer Karen Cleveland. The author has apparently worked at the CIA as an analyst for the past few years, so it sounds like she's using that work experience to tell an exciting story, and Universal has secured the film rights.
The thriller is about a wife and mother who works as a CIA analyst. One morning while digitally searching files in hopes of unmasking a Russian sleeper cell in the U.S., she makes a shocking discovery that threatens her job, her family and her life.
A Russian sleeper cell in the U.S.? What a ridiculous concept! It's not like our president is currently embroiled in an unprecedented scandal with Russia or anything, so this is exactly the kind of ludicrous escapism the American public will be able to smile and laugh at when it eventually comes to theaters. This won't hit too close to home at all. Not one bit.
