Chris Evans Seemingly Confirms Marvel's BLACK WIDOW is Officially Happening

For a while now, we’ve been hearing about the potential for a Black Widow movie. Marvel seems to want to do it, and we’ve heard reports that they’re working on getting it greenlit, but nothing has been confirmed. At least, not officially. In a recent interview with ET Canada, Chris Evans was talking about the success and excitement for Black Panther when he said:

There’s nothing [Marvel Studios] can’t do. And I’m sure it’s gonna have the exact same effect when Captain Marvel comes out, and then the Black Widow movie comes out. Marvel just has the winning recipe and they’re kind of one step ahead of everybody else. There’s nothing [Marvel Studios] can’t do.

Is he unofficially confirming Black Widow was greenlit, or is he just voicing his support of the project? I agree with him that Marvel can do anything at this point. Everything they put out is guaranteed success, even if it’s not great. This is both a blessing and a curse. It’s a blessing because it should help them have confidence in taking risks. It’s a curse because if they’re not careful, we could end up with a bunch of mediocre movies that no one actually cares about.

I think Marvel should do a Black Widow movie, and it’s one of the few times I will say that I want an origins movie. I have felt so burned out with the origins stories the last few years; it’s nice when they don’t dedicate an entire film to how we got the character. However, I would love for them to explore Black Widow’s origin. I feel like there’s a lot there that they could dive into and it would be great.

Black Widow is rumored to hit theaters in 2020.
