Chris Hemsworth Will Be Playing The Villain in George Miller's FURIOSA
We’ve got some new information to share with you regarding George Miller’s upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road prequel film Furiosa. That information involves Chris Hemsworth’s character. When his involvement was first announced, it was said that he would be taking on the lead male role in the film opposite Anya Taylor-Joy, who is taking on the title role.
It was reported at the time that the character’s name will be Dementus, and now we’ve learned that Hemsworth’s character will be the villain of the story. This bit of intel came from the recently released book, Blood, Sweat & Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road by author Kyle Buchanan. This is the information that was given in the book:
"George saw Chris [Hemsworth] initially as a courtesy and then fell in love with the idea. He's going to play totally against type, the lead baddie. Unfortunately, we've got to find all of our other characters that aren't around anymore: a new Immortan, a new Bullet Farmer, and a few others."
I actually like the fact that Hemsworth will be playing a villain. That’s something he’s never really done before and playing a villain in the world of Mad Max is sure to be insane! Just look at all those other villains that we’ve seen in the past!
The character Dementus was previously described as being "breathtakingly handsome. An angel’s face, scarred by a deep forehead wound stitched together with shiny chrome staples."
When previously talking about Furiosa, Miller hinted that the backstory is one he would like to explore: "Yeah, she’s a pretty compelling character so it would be great to tell her story. Her backstory is really interesting. We only allude to it in this movie because this movie is on the run; people don’t have much time for recreational talk. But you pick up, you have a sense of her having gone through stuff. That’s what the film is trying to do. You’re trying to put a lot of iceberg under the tip, I like saying. One of the things that’s really gratifying, people are reading the film more than just the surface — the events of the movie, and just picking up a lot of stuff underneath it, which is very deliberate......So in many ways, the audience is picking up a lot about Furiosa — or enough to intrigue. And she’s got an interesting story."
I can’t wait to see what Miller has planned for this film!
