Chris Pratt Says GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Might Take Place in the Past

After Avengers: Infinity War ended, a lot of fans assumed that the remaining Avengers team would attempt to fix what Thanos had done. Since then, the writers and directors of the film have tried to tell us that dead is dead and that we should expect the unexpected.

Recently, director Anthony Russo cryptically explained:

"Here’s the thing, I think it’s important to remember anything is possible in the MCU [Marvel Cinematic Universe]. Just because there’s a sequel on the books doesn’t mean … people become accustomed to time moving linearly in the MCU. That doesn’t necessarily have to be the case. There’s a lot of very inventive ways of where the story can go."

Joe Russo added:

"There’s four years between Guardians 2 and Infinity War. That’s a long time, and a lot of Guardians stories to tell. Again, as Anthony said, don’t expect everything to move forward in a linear fashion in the Marvel universe."

Trying to make fans believe that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could be set prior to the events of Infinity War. Now, actor Chris Pratt is saying just that! While talking to MTV on the red carpet for the stupid MTV Movie and TV Awards, he was asked about the film, and teased:

"They've cast the Blue Man Group. Yeah, it's going to be all Blue Man Group. I'm not supposed to say anything, oh no now everyone's going to be all mad! It's the Blue Man Group. It's an Andy Griffith hologram, yeah, they're the new Guardians. It's gonna be amazing."

He was then asked about how mourning Gamora might play out, to which he was quick to point out that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 might not take place after Infinity War at all.

"You don't know. It might take place in the past. It might be a prequel."

I don't know if this is something that everyone has been told to say to throw people off regarding the upcoming film or if this is something that might actually be part of the plan. Maybe it's something completely different. I don't know, but that's what everyone seems to be hinting at.

If this is the case, maybe these characters really are gone, which really would be hard! But, Dave Bautista did tease that Drax will be back and that he will possibly show up in Avengers 4. But he did admit that they didn't know how they were bringing him back.

It's going to be awhile before we do have any concrete answers regarding Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but one thing we do know for sure... it will be released in theaters in 2020.

What do you think of all this talk of Guardians Vol. 3 being set in the past? Do you think everyone is just throwing deception at the fans to mess with our heads, or do you think there could be some truth to it?
