Chris Pratt Says Marvel Is Taking “Hard Action” to Bring Star-Lord Back to the MCU: “He’s Not Going Anywhere”

Star-Lord’s Marvel Cinematic Universe story isn’t over, and Chris Pratt says Marvel Studios is already taking steps to bring Peter Quill back into action. We still don’t know when he’ll return, but it sounds like there’s an actual plan in motion.

At the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, fans were given a pretty clear promise: "The legendary Star-Lord will return." Three years later, Marvel still hasn’t revealed where Quill will show up next, but Pratt has confirmed that conversations with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and executive Louis D’Esposito have gone beyond simply talking about the character’s future.

During an appearance on The Playlist's Bingeworthy podcast, Pratt explained: "I have a great relationship with Kevin [Feige] and Lou [D'Esposito], and there have been both ongoing conversations about how we make good on that promise and also hard action taken to make sure that we make good on that promise.

"So yeah, you'll see Star-Lord again, which is very exciting, but I'm not at liberty to say when that's going to be, but he's not going anywhere."

That's and encouraging update for fans who want to see more of Peter Quill, especially since his next chapter could look very different from his previous adventures.

The last time we saw Star-Lord, he'd returned to Earth to reconnect with his grandfather, leaving Rocket Raccoon in charge of a new Guardians team. With James Gunn now running DC Studios, Marvel also faces the challenge of figuring out what to do with Quill without the filmmaker who helped shape his story across three movies.

Pratt already has some ideas. Earlier this year the actor revealed that he'd pitched Feige his vision for Star-Lord's future in the MCU.

"I'm happy to do anything they want me to do and will," he said. "And also, I personally have a really strong vision of what I would want him to do.

“And I think it's f–cking great. I'm down to contribute any way I can to them setting up the next ten years of storytelling, you know? And also, I have a pretty strong idea of how I think I could contribute to that."

Of course Pratt wants to help shape the character's next adventure as he’s invested so much time playing him and bring him to life. There's plenty of potential in exploring Peter Quill as a solo character, particularly now that he's back on Earth and figuring out what his life looks like without the Guardians.

Of course, there's also the possibility that Marvel is saving his return for one of its upcoming Avengers movies. Pratt wasn't among the actors announced during the Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal livestream, but we know that the full cast hasn't been revealed. That leaves room for a few surprises, and Star-Lord could be one of them.

There were also concept art leaks for Avengers: Secret Wars that featured Star-Lord alongside Vision and the Young Avengers. However, directors Anthony and Joe Russo later dismissed that artwork.

For now, Marvel is keeping Star-Lord's next appearance under wraps, but there's still a lot of story left to tell with Peter Quill.
