Chris Pratt Will Not Play Indiana Jones, He Doesn't Want to Be Haunted by Harrison Ford When He Dies

There were rumors a few years ago that Chris Pratt would be the next Indiana Jones replacing Harrison Ford in the role. I never thought that would really work because Ford is the only version of the character that could and should exist.

Well, Pratt recently addressed this rumor during an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, and he confirmed he will not play Indiana Jones because he doesn’t want to be haunted by Harrison Ford when he dies. When asked about the rumor, he said:

“I don’t even know who Steven Spielberg is. Who? Steven Who? No, aren’t they doing ‘Indiana Jones’ with Harrison Ford? All I know is I once saw a quote from Harrison Ford and I don’t even know if it was really him but it was enough to scare me, that was like, ‘When I die, Indiana Jones dies.’ And I’m like, am I gonna get haunted by the ghost of Harrison Ford one day when he dies if I play…?”

The quote that Pratt is referring to comes from Ford’s 2019 interview on Today. The acting icon said at the time: “Don’t you get it? I’m Indiana Jones. When I’m gone, he’s gone. It’s easy.” But also, who wouldn’t want to be haunted by Harrison Ford!?

When it comes to Indiana Jones, Steven Spielberg previously said, "There is only going to be one actor playing Indiana Jones and that’s Harrison Ford." Producer Frank Marshall also shared, “There will only be one Indiana Jones and that’s Harrison Ford.”

Indiana Jones 5 is going to be the last time we see Harrison Ford in the role, and I hope that he goes out on a strong note! The Last Crusade would have been the perfect ending for Jones! Then they made Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and now they have one more chance to give the character a proper ending.

I’m ok with Indiana Jones coming to an end, and it’s good to know that he won’t be played by another actor. I like Pratt, but even he understands that no one else can play Indiana.

But, I can’t help but think that Disney and Lucasfilm will try to continue the franchise in some way. We’ll see!
