Christoph Waltz Also Wants a Sequel To ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL
Alita: Battle Angel was such a fantastically badass sci-fi movie, and the fans would love to see the story continue! While the film did fairly well at the box office with $404.8 million worldwide, chances are a sequel won’t happen, which is a shame. The movie was produced by Fox, which is now owned by Disney, and I just don’t see Disney wanting to make a sequel.
You know who does want to see a sequel get made, though?! Christoph Waltz, who starred in the movie. During a recent interview with Collider, the actor was asked about the possibility of returning for a sequel and he said, “Of course!”
“But, you know, I’m as wise as you are. I haven’t heard anything and I’m a little disappointed and surprised that I haven’t heard a thing so far, because I know that it has followers. I know that people liked it and aside from what others said, I loved it and I liked working on it and I liked the result. You know, it was Fox and Fox doesn’t exist anymore. Now it’s Disney. Maybe it doesn’t fit into the Disneyfication, but I have no clue. I have no clue. Maybe they’re working on something and I wouldn’t be the first person to hear, but meanwhile, I haven’t heard anything.”
The end of the first film set up a sequel, especially with the reveal of Edward Norton as the villain Nova. When previous talking about the plans for the sequels, director Robert Rodriguez said that James Cameron wrote up 1,000 pages of notes for him that spanned the course of a trilogy of films. So, they knew exactly where they wanted the story to lead.
It’d be a shame if we never got to continue the journey of Alita, but stranger things have happened in Hollywood, so never say never.
