Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper Reunite for New DOCTOR WHO Adventures – Teaser Trailer Released
It’s been nearly 20 years since Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper brought Doctor Who back to life in 2005, introducing a new generation to The Doctor and his adventures traversing space and time.
Now, the Ninth Doctor and Rose Tyler are reuniting for a brand-new series of Doctor Who audio adventures, set to debut in August 2025 through Big Finish Productions.
This 12-episode collection of hour-long stories will fit within their original on-screen timeline, expanding the Ninth Doctor’s relatively brief but awesome era. I loved Eccleston in the role of The Doctor and it’s a shame he didn’t get more time in the role.
Producer Matt Fitton confirmed the series will dive right back into the world established in 2005: “Across 12 episodes, slotting neatly into that 2005 series, we have more Jackie Tyler, more Powell Estate, plus friends and enemies old and new through time and space.” Their Reunion
Eccleston, who has previously returned for solo Ninth Doctor adventures with Big Finish, is clearly excited to step back into the TARDIS with Piper.
He said: “I am so happy to be back recording more adventures for the Ninth Doctor with Billie. I don’t think my Doctor exists without Rose. He’s a ‘one man, one companion’ kind of alien.”
Eccleston elaborated: “There’s a resilience and a bravery and a deep empathy to Billie as Rose, that’s why I do this. They complete each other.”
Piper shares that sentiment, emphasizing how perfect the timing feels: “I can’t think of a better time for Rose to reunite with her first Doctor than now.
“Twenty years after she first ran into the TARDIS and towards adventure, here we are again, me and Chris, ready to have fun facing the universe – and the monsters – together.”
Both actors have dabbled in Doctor Who audio dramas before, Eccleston in his own solo stories and alongside River Song, while Piper led her own Rose Tyler spin-offs. However, this marks their first big reunion since they last appeared together on TV.
During a recent MegaCon panel in Orlando, Piper spoke about the experience, revealing that slipping back into character was easier than expected: “When you’re in the room with everyone, it’s… it’s… it’s just a sort of weird muscle memory that comes back.”
Big Finish shared the synopsis: “The Doctor and Rose want you to come with them! Back to the Powell Estate, where the Doctor’s past returns to haunt him, and out into the universe where enemies old and new are waiting…”
For those excited to jump back into the world of Doctor Who’s 2005 revival, the series is now available for pre-order exclusively on Big Finish’s website, with both CD and digital options available.
A teaser trailer has also been released, offering fans a brief but exciting taste of what’s to come.
