Christopher Nolan Rumored To Be in Talks to Direct Two JAMES BOND Films
A report has surfaced claiming that Christopher Nolan is in talks to direct two James Bond films. This report comes from World of Reel, which says: “The deal being negotiated would be for Nolan to direct two Bond films, writing both of them as well.”
The report goes on to offer additional details on the next iteration of James Bond. They say that EON and Amazon are “pushing for Nolan and that he's on board, in principle, unless his need for creative freedom isn’t met. There are sticking points to be ironed out in terms of tone that might scuttle things though.”
According to the rumor, EON is looking to do a full reboot of the franchise for the modern era and they want Nolan to adapt some of the classic Ian Fleming novels, “in period settings, that stick close to the original source material.” The ultimate goal is for Nolan to do three Bond film, and have him on board as an Executive Producer on the franchise moving forward.
They say that “EON and Amazon are putting all of their eggs in one basket for Nolan due to the fact that he wants the job.” If they don't end up landing Nolan, it's “back to the drawing board.” Apparently, as of right now, no one else is being considered.
Nolan has been very vocal about wanting to direct a James Bond movie, and he previously said: “It would be an amazing privilege to do one. At the same time, when you take on a character like that you’re working with a particular set of constraints. It has to be the right moment in your creative life where you can express what you want to express and really burrow into something within the appropriate constraints because you would never want to take on something like that and do it wrong."
Nolan previously shared a few years ago that he has talked to the Bond franchise producers, saying: "I’ve spoken to the producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson over the years. I deeply love the character, and I’m always excited to see what they do with it. Maybe one day that would work out. You’d have to be needed, if you know what I mean. It has to need reinvention; it has to need you. And they’re getting along very well."
I hope this rumor turns out to be true because I would love nothing more than to see Nolan jump into the James Bond franchise! But, as of right now, this is a big fat rumor. Regardless, I love the idea of Nolan developing it as a period spy thriller. I always thought it would be cool to see a period Bond film! We’ll just have to wait and see if this actually ends up being true.
While we wait for some kind of official announcement, what are your thoughts on Nolan directing some Bond movies?
