Christopher Nolan Sets Up His Next Film at Universal with Matt Damon in Talks to Star
Christopher Nolan has set up his next project at Universal Pictures, and Matt Damon is in talks to star. Nolan will write, direct, and produce the film.
Nolan and Damon have worked together on films such as Interstellar and Oppenheimer, but this will be the first starring role for Damon in a Nolan project. He usually plays supporting characters in his films.
Variety says that Universal is planning an IMAX release for the movie on July 17, 2026. Plot details for the project remain under wraps.
It was previously reported that Nolan was weighing two options for his next movie. One of those projects is a remake of The Prisoner, Patrick McGoohan’s mystery-thriller TV series from the 1960s.
This is a project that Nolan was actually attached to back in 2009, but it never moved forward. Later that year, The Prisoner was developed as a series at AMC, but Nolan wasn’t involved with it.
There was no information shared on what the second film project might be, but whatever film he’s moving forward with, Nolan started writing it several months ago.
When previously talking about his next film, Nolan said, “There’s part of me that’s quite keen to move on and maybe do something, you know, not quite as bleak.”
It’ll be interesting to see what kind of film Nolan makes sense. Nolan’s frequent collaborator Emma Thomas is also a producer on the film.
