Christopher Nolan Tells Denis Villeneuve That DUNE: PART TWO is a “Miraculous” Adaptation
Christopher Nolan recently praised Dune: Part Two in a conversation with director Denis Villeneuve describing it as “a miraculous job of adaptation.”
Nolan was part of a recent DGA panel with Villeneuve and he went on to say: “Taking the second half and making an incredible conclusion to the story… what a remarkable piece of work.”
Nolan added, “If, to me, Dune was like Star Wars, then Dune 2 is The Empire Strikes Back, which is my favorite Star Wars film. I think it’s just a great expansion of all that was introduced in the first one.
“What I was really struck by is the sense of immersion in that world. It’s a film that has so many unique images, so many things you’ve never seen before in this movie, time after time, and I was so struck by the detail of everything.”
This isn’t the first time that Nolan compared Dune: Part Two to The Empire Strikes Back. He previously said: "For me, I don’t think it says too much to say that if Dune: Part One was Star Wars, this to me is very much The Empire Strikes Back, which is my favorite of the Star Wars films. I just think it’s an incredibly exciting expansion of all of the things you introduce in the first one."
Dune: Part Two was awesome, and Villeneuve plans to start shooting the franchise’s third installment, based on Herbert’s ’69 novel Dune Messiah, in late 2025 or 2026.
