Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY Set to Unveil a 6-Minute Extended Trailer Exclusively in 70mm IMAX
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is still several months away from being released, yet fans are about to get their first major look at the filmmaker’s next epic. Universal is rolling out an extended six minute trailer, and it will only play in 70mm IMAX theaters, the exact format Nolan designed this movie for.
The entire production was captured with IMAX cameras and the studio is leaning into that scale by giving audiences a preview that shows off the massive scope long before the film arrives.
The extended prologue begins screening December 12 and will play before Imax 70mm showings of Sinners and One Battle After Another. A week later, on December 19, a shorter preview will debut ahead of all screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash.
After that point, the longer 70mm version will continue to accompany the IMAX presentations of the new James Cameron film. For anyone who seeks out the biggest screen possible, this is the first real window into Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s journey.
The Odyssey opens July 17, 2026 and brings the ancient tale of Odysseus and his treacherous path home from the Trojan War to modern cinema on a scale only Nolan attempts.
The cast includes Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, and Elliot Page, along with several others.
For fans of large format filmmaking, mythology, or Nolan’s ambitious style, this extended preview is sure to be an awesome early look at the epic project.
