Cillian Murphy and Jack O'Connell Will Play Brothers in A QUIET PLACE PART III

Cillian Murphy and Jack O'Connell are trading one terrifying horror franchise for another, and this time they're family. O'Connell has revealed that he and Murphy will play brothers in A Quiet Place Part III, adding an interesting new connection to the story of John Krasinski's alien-infested world.

O'Connell, who joined the cast back in March, shared the news while speaking with Collider at the Newport Beach Film Festival, saying:

"A Quiet Place felt like family. It's about family, obviously. Got John Krasinski and Emily Blunt involved, and Cillian and I play brothers. There was a real familial feel to that one."

That little piece of information raises some interesting questions about Murphy's character, Emmett, who was introduced in 2021's A Quiet Place Part II.

When audiences first met Emmett, he was a hardened survivor living alone in an underground bunker after losing his family. An old friend of Lee Abbott, played by John Krasinski, Emmett eventually helps Evelyn Abbott and her children survive the deadly creatures hunting anyone who makes a sound.

Now we're learning that Emmett apparently has a brother who's still alive. Whether the two have been separated since the alien invasion or there's more to their relationship remains to be seen, but a family reunion in this franchise probably won't be a particularly happy occasion.

There's also the question of what kind of character O'Connell will be playing. After his terrifying performance in Sinners, followed by his turn as the twisted Jimmy Crystal in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, he's certainly proven he can play a seriously disturbing villain. Hopefully, his character in A Quiet Place Part III will be someone Emmett can actually trust.

Interestingly, this isn't the first time Murphy and O'Connell have appeared in the same horror franchise. Murphy originated the role of Jim in 28 Days Later, while O'Connell joined the series as Jimmy Crystal in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. The two didn't share any scenes, but Murphy made a cameo near the end of the 2026 sequel, after O'Connell's character met his demise.

As for A Quiet Place Part III, story details are still being kept under wraps. Emily Blunt is returning as Evelyn Abbott, with Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe expected to reprise their roles as her children, Regan and Marcus. Krasinski is also returning to write, direct, and produce the sequel.

The addition of O'Connell as Emmett's brother opens up another interesting side of the story, especially considering how little we know about Emmett's life before everything went to hell.

A Quiet Place Part III is scheduled to hit theaters on July 30, 2027.
