COBRA KAI Creators Weigh in on the Possibility of Hilary Swank's THE NEXT KARATE KID Character Appearing on the Series
Just a week ago, we posted an article that reported a recent interview with Ralph Macchio of the Karate Kid and Cobra Kai franchise, in which he said that a Hilary Swank cameo was not out of the question in the show’s future. Academy award-winning actress Swank starred in the 1994 film, The Next Karate Kid, opposite Pat Morita, who played the franchise star Mr. Miyagi. As Macchio said, this film is part of the Miyagi-verse, making it possible for Swank’s character Julie Pierce to appear in a storyline.
Now, the creators of the series are weighing in on the possibility. In an interview with Fandom, co-creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg teased the idea, with Hurwitz saying:
"All we can say about her is we love Hilary Swank. We think she's a phenomenal actress and we love her character in this franchise. She was taught by Mr. Miyagi and she's somebody who is important to the Karate Kid universe. We can't say if she'll return, we can't say how she'd return if she was going to return. We can say that we talk about her and maybe we've met her, maybe we've worked with her, maybe we haven't. We can't tell you anything! It's gonna continue to be a question until either she shows up or the series ends and we welcome the question every time!"
They give us nothing, but they do it with such charisma. I would bet that our chances of seeing Swank show up in the series are pretty dang good. After Season 3 last year, where we saw the return of Elisabeth Shue as Ali, Tamlyn Tomita as Kumiko, and Yuji Okumoto as Chozen, and now the Season 4 return of Thomas Ian Griffith as Terry Silver, we know the creators are happy to bring back characters from the films, and the fans are loving it as well.
I am here for the ride, and I can’t wait to see what happens in Season 5 and beyond. Cobra Kai Seasons 1-4 are available now on Netflix.
