COMMUNITY: THE MOVIE Writer Andrew Guest Explains Why the Film Has Been Delayed

It’s been more than three years since Community: The Movie was announced. We have had several promising updates since then about the returning cast members and the funny, irreverent script, but we still don’t have any footage or a release date.

The film’s writer, Andrew Guest, gave fans an update during an interview on The Watch podcast (via CB), where he explained that they “got very close to shooting” after the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike.

Unfortunately, he went on to say that one particular actor then had a project which “came into conflict in terms of timing,” further delaying the feature-length continuation of the beloved show. That’s frustrating, but at least we know they’re still trying to make it happen.

For now, all we know about the project is that Donald Glover previously revealed that the film centers on “a college reunion.” One-time Greendale Community College film student Abed Nadir, played by Danny Pudi, is now “this big director,” and the Peacock pic we’ll watch is “his magnum opus.”

It will include returning stars Yvette Nicole Brown, Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong.
