Marvel Releases Cool ASL Poster Art For Its ECHO Series
Marvel Studios has released a new poster promoting its upcoming Echo series and it does something that I don’t ever recall seeing done before. It’s an ASL poster where the title is spelled out in sign language, and I love it!
First introduced in the comics in 1999, Echo is a deaf Native American superhero who possesses exceptional photographic reflexes, allowing her to mimic any physical skill or movement she witnesses. What sets Echo apart is her deep connection to Native American culture and heritage, which plays a significant role in her character development. She is the adopted daughter of the Kingpin, a notorious Marvel villain, adding some interesting complexity to her storyline.
Echo's deafness makes her a groundbreaking character for representing disability diversity in the Marvel Universe. Her ability to bridge different worlds, both in terms of her skills and her heritage, makes Echo a unique and awesome addition to the MCU.
The series centers on Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) as she “struggles to reconnect with her Native American roots while balancing aspirations tied to a life of crime as successor to the brutal legacy of Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) aka Kingpin. In the first episode, we are introduced to Maya Lopez and her struggles."
Echo is developed by Etan Cohen and Emily Cohen, who are writers and executive producers on the show. The series also stars Charlie Cox, Zahn McClarnon, Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Cody Lightning, Devery Jacobs, and Graham Greene.
All five episodes will drop on Disney+ and Hulu on April 9th, 2024.
